hi guys, today we start with 3rd term conts and we will learn RACES AND JUMPS IN ATHLETICS

We will use a very good web page. There is much information but you ONLY NEED TO WATCH THE "RACES" AND "JUMPS" parts ON THE LEFT COLUMN.

It is in spanish so it will be easier for you but THE EXAM WILL BE IN ENGLISH so i let you some specyfic vocabulary to help you.

Remember that this exam IS PART OF YOU EVALUATION and YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO IT ONLY ONCE. for this reason you need to start or create a GOOGLE ACCOUNT

VOCABULARY

You DO NOT have to learn it. This vocabulary is to help you with the exam.

Event: Prueba.

Meeting: Mitin, reunión deportiva, reunión atlética.

Mitin: Reunión atlética.

Performance: Marca. Resultado final obtenido en una prueba.

Tartan: Tartán. Material sintético del que está hecho la pista.

1) Races

Endurance: Fondo. Capacidad de resistencia física de un atleta en la ejecución de una prueba.

Lane: Calle.

Long-distance/endurance runner: Fondista.

Marathon: Maratón.

Middle/half-distance runner: Mediofondista.

Race: Carrera.

Starting blocks: Tacos de salida.

2) Steeplechase

Hurdle: Valla.

Hurdler: Vallista.

Hurdle race: Carrera de vallas.

Steeple: Carrera de obstáculos.

Steeplechase: Carrera de obstáculos.

Water jump barrier: Ría. Lo más completo sería obstáculo con ría.

 3) Relay races

Line of takeover zone: Zona de transferencia.

Relay runner: Relevista

Relay race: Prueba de relevos, carrera de relevos.

Relay event: Carrera de relevos.

 4) Jumps

Trial: Intento.

Jumper: Saltador.

High jump: Salto de altura.

Straddle jump: Salto de rodillo, rodillo ventral.

Landing: Recepción. Momento en el que el atleta, tras su salto, vuelve a entrar en contacto con la tierra.

Broad/long jump: Salto de longitud.

Long jumper: Saltador de longitud.

Triple jump: Triple salto.

Triple jumper: Saltador de triple, triplista.

Tripler: Triplista.

Stamp board: Tabla de batida.

Pole: Pértiga. En América es frecuente, garrocha.

Pole vault: Salto con pértiga.

Pole vaulter: Saltador de pértiga, pertiguista.
